Description

Getting ready for nebula season. So I traded my 294mcp with a 533mcp (via Cloudy Nights) because I was growing tired of the funky flats with the 294mcp and the Antlia 5nm duo band filter. The 533 calibrates out flats perfectly - I'm very pleased.

But, my stars are bloated and have a halo because I've also incorporated step down rings on front of the Vivitar 90mm macro instead of stopping down from 2.8 to 5.6, causing a refraction pattern from the iris blades. Next, I'll add another step down ring to see if that mitigates the halos.

Title: Stopped down lens iris to 5.6

Description: For last night's testing session to mitigate the halos/bloating - I stopped down the lens to 5.6 (from 2.8) and used step down rings at the front of the lens to mitigate coma/fringing. To avoid star spikes, I had hoped to keep the iris wide open at 2.8 and use the front step down rings instead, but that attempt failed (1st version). I'm now happy with the spikes - JWST and Hubble make it fashionable ;) The lens is also sharper when stopped down (as expected).
